We are going to discuss the short story named "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry. Before we start the discussion, make sure you have read the story first, so you do not get confused with the story.

I am very interested in this story, especially with the storyline. The sacrifice of the hero and heroine can inspire the reader. Even though this story is quite old, it is still quite relevant for teenagers like us. However, let's talk about the plot of this story.

We will start with the exposition of the story. It began on Christmas eve when Della, the main heroine, wanted to give her husband a Christmas gift, but she only had $1,87. She was confused about what to buy with the amount of money she had now. The money she has will not be enough to buy anything as a Christmas gift for her husband.

Della decided to sell her hair to the Madame Sofronie, the nearest shop of hair dresser by her flat. Della's beautiful hair is priced at $20. it was a very high price for a hair in that era. after getting money from selling his hair. He immediately rushed to the shops on the roadside, which were still open. Della remembered the watch that James used. And she decided to buy a new chain for the watch with the money she had. after getting a Christmas present for her husband. Della rushed back to her flat and waited for James to come home. That was the rising action of the story.

Next we will talk about the climax. Della waited expectantly for James to come home. When James opened the door, he was very surprised by Della's new appearance. The beautiful hair that usually adorned Della's head had disappeared. Della showed James her gift, which was a watch chain. But James had sold his watch to buy an ornamental comb as a gift for Della.

 The falling action of the story is Della and James accepted gracefully what had happened. Della convinced James that the hair he had lost would grow back over time.

At the end, O.Henry as the writer comparing this story with the story of the magi. Their sacrificial gift cannot be compared with Magi's character who never satisfied with the gifts she has received
